There are many things you can do to maximize an interview. The fewer things you do to distract the hiring manager, the better. You want the interviewer to be focused on your presentation. For example; you arrive at the interview with excessive cologne. The interviewer is now distracted and possibly thinking "did he bathe in cologne this morning?"
You really want the interviewer to focus on you, not the distractions that you may create. If you don't provide distractions, the focus will be will be directed towards your overall presentation.
